I like the bug spray
very much. Congratulations to Porcupine Creek Farm for their 'Canadian Bush
Spray' herbal insect repellant.
It is not like DEET,
possibly not so immediately effective as a deterrent, but also
not nearly so horrible. It feels and smells pleasant, and does
not give me the sensation of being steeped in toxicity that comes
with using DEET based insect repellants. The pump spray is effective
and easy to use. I took it with me up to the Blue Skies Music Festival
site yesterday afternoon. The weather was warm and muggy (late June) with a
couple of brief downpours (thunder and lightning thrown in for free!),
perfect for nasty big deer flies and mosquitoes too.
Five of us used
the spray. The deer flies did not appreciate it (good news!), nor did the
mosquitoes. I stayed with just a tee-shirt, jeans and sandals all afternoon
and evening while we did some work and then sat around a campfire, cooking,
eating, chatting and playing music into the small hours. Every now and
again I would find a mosquito attempting to bite my ankle or my neck or
whatever and I just sprayed some more of the juice on. That seemed to do
the trick; applications appear to have a cumulative deterrent
effect. Towards the end of the evening the only place I was
getting an occasional bite was through my tee-shirt in the middle of my
back where I had not bothered to spray any of the bug juice.
Between the 5 of us we went through about one third of a bottle for
the evening; quite an acceptable rate of consumption. Woke up this
morning with the scent of citronella, rosemary, eucalyptus, tea
tree, thyme, cloves, geranium, etc.
I have a request for
2 more bottles.
